| At 1555 hours Station 7, Solomons Boat 3, Seventh District Boat 5, EMS Station 79, and St. Mary's County ALS unit were dispatched to 24494 Placid Harbor Way at the Placid Harbor Winpisinger Center for a possible person in the water.
Rescue Squad 7, Engine 72, Utility 7, Raft 7, Safety Officer 7, and Chief 7A responded with 13 volunteers to the incident. Safety 7 was first to arrive meeting with the caller who advised he found a cell phone lying on the dock and believed a person was possible in the water under the ice. Rescue Squad 7 and Chief 7A were next to arrive with the crew already in cold water rescue suits and prepared to make entry as needed. Chief 7A established the "Placid Harbor Command" and advised all units of the situation. Command requested one Rescue Boat to the scene and the rest of the unit to stage. Due to having no witness for a person entering the water, Command held off on putting anyone on the ice or in the water for a search. The crew from Rescue Squad 7 poled the area next to the dock to attempt to locate a possible victim while the Boat prepared to use SONAR to check the area.
Solomons Boat 83 arrived on the scene and searched the area with negative results. The Boat scanned an area approximately 40X40 including area under the ice. With nothing found by polling or SONAR scan, Command advised the same and terminated Command turning the scene over to MSP and NRP. Units from Station 7 returned to quarters at 1703 hours. |
