While working at Gatton's Barber Shop, Past President John Gatton Jr and Ladies Auxiliary Member Kim Sullivan found themselves in the middle of a Medical Emergency. Just past 1100 hours several patrons notice a male who was starting to slump in his chair inside the establishment. The male was going into cardiac arrest and was placed on the floor. John and Kim immediately went to work calling 911 and starting EMS care. Once the patient was on the floor ABC's were checked with none found. John and Kim started CPR on the patient while Station 7, EMS Station 79, and EMS Station 19 were dispatched to the scene. While the Rescue Squad and Ambulance were enroute the patient regained a pulse and had a faint airway. As the Rescue Squad arrived on the scene the patient went pulse less again and John and Kim started CPR once more. Once the crew from the Squad arrived on the scene they hooked up the AED along with Oxygen and utilized the AED due to the patient still being pulse less and not breathing. After several minutes of working on the patient he regained a pulse but had labored breathing. The Ambulance from Station 19 arrived on the scene and the patient was packaged and transported to St Mary's Hospital. At this time the patient is still in the Hospital and awaiting surgery. Great job to all who were on the call and to John and Kim for there quick actions to help someone in need.
