By Firefighter Ernest Rogers
November 20, 2007

At 1656 a box alarm was dispatched at 26945 Three Notch Road, the Laurel Grove Station. The assignment brought Company's 2, 7, 1, Station 22, Truck 7, Truck 1, and EMS Station 29 to the call. At 1700 hours Fire Chief 3 advised communications he was on the scene and it would be the apartments next to the Laurel Grove Station. Chief 3 advised he had light smoke showing from the attic. Engine 74 (Lt. Raley), and Truck 7 (Capt. Albert) responded to the call at 1657 hours. Engine 21 was the first Engine to arrive on the scene and Engine 74 arrived moments after with 21's line and assuming the Laurel Grove Command. At that time Engine 72 (Lt. Sweeney) responded as well on the call to provide additional manpower. As other units from 7, and 1 were arriving interior units advised that they had a haze inside the structure and at that time Truck Company 7 began to cut there holes in the roof to gain access to see if they could find anything. Lt. Raley then handed Command to Chief 3 who then transferred it over to Chief 2B who arrived at 1710 hours. At that time Chief 2B had Engine 72 and Engine 224 from Golden Beach stage in the Laurel Grove Park. Engine 14 and Truck 1 arrived and assisted units operating on the scene. The surronding apartments were checked with negative results. Units from 7 made access to the roof from the interior and found it to be embers burning and the attic charged with smoke. As the Truck crew from Hollywood made there cuts in the roof ventillating the smoke out of the building. Command advised Fireboard to have the Fire Investigator and SMECO respond as well as it was believed to have been triggered but a electrical failure. Units operated on the scene a short time longer and at 1810 hours all Company 7 units had returned to quarters.

Units: Engine 21, Engine 74, Truck Company 7, Engine 72, Engine 14, Truck 1, Engine 224, Chief 3, Chief 2B
