By Firefighter Ernest Rogers
November 7, 2007

At 1658 hours Company 9, 7, 3, EMS Station 79, 39, and 83 were alerted to the Wildewood Retirement Village 23154 Wetstone Lane for the building fire in Bay District Station 9's first due. Initial reports coming into Fireboard stated that smoke was coming from the walls in the restaurant part of the establishment. Engine 73 (Capt. Brady) responded at dispatch with the Ladder Truck (Lt. Raley) responding seconds after. Chief 7 and Chief 3 both responded as well on the call. Engine 73 arrived first on the scene dropping the line at the hydrant on the corner of Cobblestone and Wetstone. Capt. Brady advised he had one story commercial building nothing evident. Chief 3 established the command as Chief 3A arrived and held the interior operations with the help from Chief 7. Engine 32 arrived next with Truck Company 7 and picked up 73's line. Engine 92, Engine 33, and Truck 3 also responded to the call and assisted. As crews were inside investigating they had an odor of smoke in the restaurant. The crews investigated further and it was determined that the cause was cooking a pot that was very close to the wall which charred the wall. The crews from 7 checked the walls for extension and command held it with Units from 7 and Engine 33. At 1801 hours all units from Company 7 had arrived back home.
