By Secretary Tammy Sweeney
March 5, 2006

As the weekend was winding down for most people, the Firefighters from HVFD were busy staffing units, for multiple calls. At 1905 hours, Fireboard alerted Stations 9 and 3(Bay District), Station 7(Hollywood), and EMS 39(Lexington Park VRS) for a gas leak at the Wendy's on Mirmar Dr., in California. Truck 7, under the command of Captain D. Brady, Jr., responded promptly with a total of 5 and Engine 73, under the command of Chief 7A D. Pilkerton, Sr., followed right behind with a total of 6. Command advised Engine 73 to take secondary water source in the area of Applebee's, and Truck 7 was advised to stage until further advised. Units arrived simultaneously at 1915 hours. The Truck Company held their crew, while the Engine Company was advised to report to command for manpower. Units remained on the scene while members from Bay District investigated the odor. Command released the units from Hollywood at 1930 hours.

On the way back to the Firehouse, Fireboard alerted Station 4(Ridge) for a brush fire, on Diamond Lane, in Dameron. Units from 7 had just gotten in quarters when Command asked for additional tankers. Since Station 3 ran both Engine 31 and 33 to Ridge, Fireboard alerted HVFD to fill in Station 3. Engine 74, under the command of FF T. Sweeney, left the Station at 1951 hours, and covered 3's area until 2202 hours. Engine 74 ran no calls on the fill in.

The night wasn't over yet. At 2249, Fireboard alerted Station 1(Leonardtown), EMS 19(Leonardtown VRS), EMS 79 (Hollywood VRS) and the medic unit for a MVC, vehicle into a Commercial Building, at the Fast Stop on Point Lookout Road in Leonardtown. At 2252 hours, Station 7 and 5(Avenue) were added to the call when it was confirmed the vehicle was on fire. Engine 74, under the command of FF Sweeney responded within minutes, with a total of 6. Truck 7, Chief 7A Pilkerton, Sr. and 5, also responded on the box. As Engine 74 was approaching the scene, Chief 1A advised command that they could hold the box with units from 1, and the rest could return. Engine 74 and Truck 7 returned to service at 2249 hours. As Engine 74 was heading back to Hollywood, Command asked them to stage at LMS incase they were needed for a fly out. At 2252 hours, Engine 74 set up the LZ in the back lot of the SMC Fairgrounds, for Eagle 1. Moments later Medical advised Command the patient would be transported to SMH, and the helo could be cancelled. Engine 74 returned to service again. Units from Company 7 were in quarters at 2310 hours, and remained there the rest of the night.

Units: Engine 73, Truck 7, Engine 74, Ch7A

Mutual Aid: Numerous Units from Stations 9,3,1, EMS 19, EMS 79, and the Medic Unit.
