The Hollywood VFD moved in the current facility in 1991 after years of planning. The memberships theme for the building fund drive was Building To Serve. The building has definitely served us well allowing us to raise money utilizing the hall for many events that the community uses as we're the largest in the area.
Not only do we rent our facility for weddings, meetings, conventions, etc., but our department is used by many government agencies for various things throughout the year. We hold elections in our hall during all election cycles to include early voting. We were the prime site for the Covid-19 vaccinations in the county by the health department and were also looked at as a potential alternate care facility should the hospital patient admittance go over their capacity. We have also been the site for the State Police and Sheriff's Offices to meet because of our close proximity to both agencies and being able to house a large group on a short notice. They have also set up their mobile command unit for large incidents, and regularly have tri-county police motorcycle training using our parking lot. The Maryland Department of Transportation also uses part of our parking lot for bus riders to park their vehicle while they commute using the buses to and from Washington DC.
Our facility was built to serve our community with fire protection services as well as being the center and staple in our community for many county uses that benefit the entire county and tri-county area. Our facility has had several renovations to keep up with the high usage it gets on an annual basis. Our plan is to keep our facility ready and available for our community members and play a key role as a viral public partner in times of need.
