At 1426 hours EMS Station 79, 19, and the Medic Unit were dispatched to the intersection of McIntosh Road and Windward Way for an Unconscious Person in a vehicle. Medic 1 was the first to respond and was advised of a Male who was on his way to the hospital for chest pains and was now unconscious and vomiting. After hearing the return to the Medic unit and knowing that this was a priority call and possibly a code or pre-code, a crew of four loaded up on the Engine and started that way.

Engine 72 was first to arrive at 1433 hours and advised to all units they had a working code. The crew worked together to remove the patient from the vehicle and started CPR and hooking up the AED. The crew provided 1 shock prior to the Ambulance arriving and performed continues CPR. Once the Ambulance and Medic unit arrived the patient was loaded into the Ambulance for transport. Part of the Engine crew transported with the Ambulance while the rest of the crew met at the hospital.

By the time the Ambulance arrived at the ER the patient was breathing on his own and turned over to ER staff. Once in the ER the patient lost a pulse again and was once again worked up and regained a pulse and was breathing on his own. The patient was transported to Washington Hospital Center and at the time of this story was still breathing on his own.

Because of the heads up and quick response by the crew of Engine 72 and the rest of the EMS units, this patient will hopefully be making a full recovery.
