By Deputy Fire Chief Bryan Riley
April 25, 2013

At 2205 Station 3 was dispatched to Spring Ridge Middle School for a Bush on fire in front of the School. Brush 3 arrived on the scene requesting to "Fill the Box" and they had a working fire inside the building. At 2213 hours Station 3, Station 9, Station 4, Station 6, EMS Station 39 and 38 were added to the call for the Building Fire. Chief 3A responded on the call and requested an additional Engine and Squad for RIT. Station 13 and Rescue Squad 7 were added to the call with Rescue Squad 7 responding at dispatch with 4 volunteers. At 2219 hours Truck 7 was dispatched to fill the assignment as the second Truck on the Building Fire. Truck 7 and Chief 7B responded with 5 volunteers on the call. Engine 33 arrived on the scene finding a fire on Side "A" of the structure that was involving an A/C unit. The crew advanced a hand line into the building finding fire in a front class room and extinguished the same. Rescue Squad 7 arrived on the scene and established the RIT for the incident with Truck 7 taking position on the C/D corner of the building. Once it was confirmed that the fire was out Rescue Squad 7 was re-assigned to the Vent Group with Truck 3 and Truck 7. Command placed the fire under control within 20 minutes and held the assignment with Station 3, Station 9, Station 7, and Station 13 to perform overhaul and ventilation. The crews in the vent group established a ventilation plan and had the entire structure ventilated within 45 minutes. Chief 3A (Wahrenbrock) held the "Spring Ridge" Command and the units from Station 7 return to quarters at 0033 hours.
