| At 1748 hours Station 2, Charles Station 2, Station 22, Station 7, Charles Station 5, EMS Station 29, and Charles EMS 2 were dispatched to 28270 Old Village Road in Mechanicsville for a House Fire. Engine 74, Truck 7, and Chief 7B responded shortly after dispatch with 11 volunteers on the call. First arriving units from Mechanicsville found a 2 1/2 story farm house with fire showing from side "C" of the structure. Engine 74 arrived on the scene picking up Charles Engine 22's line with the crew going to work on Division 3. The crew from Engine 74 held the fire in check on division 3 while the other companies were opening up on the first and second floor. Truck 7 arrived on the scene and positioned on side "A" of the structure. The crew laddered the building then went to work inside opening up for the Engine Companies. The house was of balloon frame construction with plaster and lath on all the floors. Crews opening up utilized hand tools and chainsaws to reach the hidden fire. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked Command held the units from Station 2, Charles Station 2, and Station 7 on the scene and return the rest of the assignment. The fire was placed under control within 45 minutes and Companies remained on the scene assisting the Fire Marshall's office and completing overhaul. The units from Station 7 returned to quarters at 2134 hours. Chief 2B held the Old Village Road Command. Photos Courtesy of John Douglass and Dan Emmart
