At 1538 hours Station 7, Rescue Squad 2, Charles Boat 5, Calvert Boat 3, Boat 5, EMS Station 79 and 29 were dispatched to Cape St. Mary's Marina in Sandgates for the report of a vehicle in the water. Chief 7, Chief 7A, Rescue Squad 7, Truck 7, and Engine 72 responded with 14 volunteers to the scene. Chief 7 was first to arrive confirming a single vehicle in the water, unknown if it was occupied and establish the "Sandgates Command". Rescue Squad 7 arrived on the scene with the crew donning water rescue equipment and preparing to enter the water. With the caller being unsure of the amount of time the vehicle was in the water Command advised that they were in the "Rescue" Mode. Crews gained access to the vehicle that was approximately 50 feet off the shore and attempted to feel around in the vehicle and found negative results. Next the crew attempted to winch the vehicle closer to shore so they would have better access to the vehicle and possible trapped occupant. Command advised communications of the progress and requested to hold Rescue Squad 7, Truck 7, Hollywood EMS, Boat 5 and the Calvert Dive Team. Boat 5 and the Calvert County Dive Team arrived on the scene and the crew started suiting up to further check the vehicle. Once the Dive Team reached the vehicle they located one occupant inside the vehicle that was not breathing. The crew transferred the patient to Ambulance 797 who transported the patient to St. Mary's Hospital Priority 1 with CPR in progress. Crews remained on the scene checking for further occupants and assisting the Sheriff's Department and Dive Team. With no other occupants found, Command was terminated and the units from Hollywood returned to quarters at 1845 hours.
