Daylight Savings Time

March 4, 2026

It is time to move our clocks forward for Daylight Saving Time on Sunday, March 8.

As you walk through your home to reset your clocks, be sure to test each smoke alarm using the test button. If your smoke alarms use standard batteries, now is the perfect time to change those batteries. Choosing this day is an easy way to remember to do it each year. Note that some smoke alarms come with long-life, non-replaceable batteries. Smoke alarms should also be replaced if their manufactured date is older than 10 years.

Residents are encouraged to take inventory as they go throughout their homes, making sure smoke alarms are installed in each sleeping room, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home. If you have a basement, remember to have a smoke alarm there as well. Maintaining alarms in each of these locations is important, as you may have as little as two minutes to escape safely in the event of a home fire. Statistics show that working smoke alarms reduce the chances of dying in a fire by nearly 50 percent.
