December 5, 2022

At approximately 1230 hours Sunday 4 December 2022, Tanker 7 and Engine 7 were dispatched to the 43100 block of North Megan Lane in Leonardtown for the reported house fire. Tanker 74, Engine 72, Chief 7 (Rogers) and Chief 7A (Rector) responded with 11 Volunteers shortly after dispatch. Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department Chief 1 (C. Bell) arrived on location to find a 2 story single family home with fire showing from both levels. Engine 10 was next to arrive starting a fire attack on the lower level of the home. Rescue Squad 7 was added to the run to fill the Box Alarm Assignment and responded with 4 additional Volunteers. Tanker 74 arrived on the scene and supplied the fire ground with the crew reporting to the 1st floor for fire attack. Engine 72 arrived, dropped off personnel at the scene, then reported to the fill site at a hydrant in the area. The crew of Engine 72 assisted with fire attack in the basement. Multiple companies worked several hand lines to extinguish the fire. The fire was deemed under control in 45 minutes with Command holding all units. Rescue Squad 7 assisted with opening up and performing overhaul throughout the structure. One occupant was located, on arrival, outside the house and was suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. This occupant was transported by Maryland State Police - Aviation Command Trooper 7 to Washington Hospital Center. Two Firefighters were also transported to the hospital for minor injuries sustained while on the fire ground. Both of these Firefighters were transported to St. Mary's Hospital. Once the fire was deemed out, with no more extension, Command held the units from Station 1, 9, 7, and Engine 5, returning the rest. Chief 1 (C. Bell) held the Leonardtown Command. Chief 7 (Rogers) was assigned the Basement Division Supervisor then re-assigned to Division 1. Chief 7A was assigned Division 1 (Rector) Supervisor then re-assigned to Division 2. The Units from Station 7 returned to quarters at 1540 hours. This fire is being investigated by Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
