By Past Chief Charles Miedzinski (CP)
November 14, 2020

At approximately 0615 hours Tuesday, 10 November 2020, units were dispatched to the 43000 block of Medley’s Neck Road in Leonardtown, Maryland for an injured hunter in a tree. Rescue Squad 7 was added to the incident and responded with 5 Volunteers shortly after dispatch. First arriving units found a hunter approximately 30 feet in the tree, up side down, and hanging from his harness after his tree stand had a malfunction and collapsed. Battalion Chief 13 (Trossbach) established the Command and requested Rescue Squad 7 to assist with patient evacuation. The crew assisted with taking a 35' ladder, rope rescue gear, and additional manpower approximately a quarter mile off the road to the incident scene. The crew ascended the ladder to create a high anchor point above the patient I and utilized the Aztec kit to lower the patient. Once the patient was lowered to the ground, he was packaged and transported by UTV 5 (Seventh District) to the awaiting EMS Transport Unit. The EMS Unit transported the patient to St. Mary's Medstar Hospital as a priority 3 patient. Command was terminated and Rescue Squad 7 cleared the scene at 0830.

Units from Station 1 (Leonardtown VFD), 6 (Valley Lee VFD & RS), 5 (Seventh District VFD), 7, (Hollywood VFD), 13 (NDW / NAS Pax River FD) and 10-03 (Waldorf VFD) operated on the scene.
