Busy Daytime for Volunteers

By Deputy Fire Chief Billy Hill
March 14, 2006

It all started at 0407hrs on 3-14-06 when Station 7 was alerted to a mutual aid brush fire at 23346 Rolling Rd in Company 9's (Bay District) area. Brush 7 and Engine 74 worked on the scene for 2 hours before returning to quarters.

At 1039hrs Rescue Squad 7 responded to 24635 Cougar Ct. to assist EMS with a priority 2 patient.

At 1122hrs Engine 74 was alerted to respond to Company 5's (Seventh District) station for a fill-in while they were on a working house fire at 37890 River Springs School Rd. Engine 74 was advised by command to reroute to the scene at 1136hrs. While working that fire a second working house fire assignment in Company 5's (Seventh District) area was dispatched at 24230 Victory Ln. Engine 73 responded from quarters, and command released Engine 74 to go to the second assignment. Engine 53, Engine 74 and Chief 1 arrived on the scene to find a small fire on the stove, holding Engine 53 and 74 only. Engine 73 went in-service from that assignment and was requested to run the assignment on River Springs School Rd. Engine 73 arrived on the scene at 1217 and went straight to work on the 3rd floor overhauling. Engine 74 was also requested to return to the scene and assist with salvage and overhaul. All Company 7 units cleared at 1410hrs.

At 1448hrs while cleaning up from the fire the station was alerted for a brush fire at 26269 Skyview Dr. Brush 7, Brush 7A, and Engine 74 responded with 10 volunteers. Brush 7 arrived on the scene with a working brush with possible extension to a single family home and upgraded the assignment to a house fire. Engine 74 arrived on the scene and Chief 7B (Hill) established the Skyview Drive Command, and after investigation the fire did not extend into the residence and the box assignment was cancelled. Units spent 20 minutes mopping up the 100 X 100 area. All units cleared at 1524.

Units: Brush 7, Brush 7A, Engine 73, Engine 74, Rescue Squad 7, Chief 7B
