At 2352 hours Station 9, Calvert Rescue 3, Rescue Squad 7, Rescue Squad 3, EMS Station 38, Calvert EMS Station 3, and St. Mary's ALS were dispatched to the area of Patuxent Beach Road and Oak Drive for a Motor Vehicle Accident with one person trapped. Rescue Squad 7(Capt. Taylor), Captain 7(Rogers), and Chief 7A(Riley) responded shortly after dispatch with 10 Volunteers.

Engine 91 and Chief 9B were first to arrive finding a single vehicle over the guardrail with one person trapped. Chief 9B established the Command as Calvert Rescue 3, Rescue Squad 3, and Rescue Squad 7 all arrived. The crews from the Rescue Companies worked to stabilize the vehicle which was partially down a steep embankment. The crews utilized struts along with chains and com-a-longs to tie back the vehicle to the guardrail. Once the vehicle was completely stabilized the crews went to work removing the door and "B" post to gain access to the occupant of the vehicle. Once access was gained to the occupant it was determined that he was pinned between the dash and the roof of the vehicle. The crews then utilized two large rams to lift the vehicle off the occupant and removing him from the vehicle. The extrication took approximately 40 minutes to free the severely pinned occupant and he was then turned over to EMS personnel on the scene.

The patient was flown by Trooper 7 as a Priority 1 Category "A" Trauma to the Trauma Center. Crews remained on the scene for a short time picking up and cleaning all the equipment.

This incident showed great team work from 3 different departments to get the job done. All personnel did an outstanding job and continued to work to free the trapped occupant even with the challenging extrication they had to deal with.
