By Past Chief Charles Miedzinski (CP)
May 7, 2021

At approximately 1400 hours Friday, 7 May 2021, Fire Chief 1 (C. Bell) notified St. Mary’s Fire Communications that his vehicle had just involved in a collision with injuries at the intersection of St. Andrews Church Road and Fairgrounds Road. Upon hearing Fire Chief Bell notify Communications via the radio, Rescue Squad 7 and Fire Chief 7 (Brady) immediately responded with 6 Volunteers. Fire Chief 1 (Bell) reported 3 vehicles with 1 trapped and at least 3 others injured. Rescue Squad 7 arrived on the scene and went to work to free the trapped driver of the passenger car. Fire Chief 7 (Brady) established the Command and had Rescue Squad 1 and Rescue Engine 92 assisting with the extrication. All patients were evaluated and the trapped driver was deemed a trauma patient requiring a fly out to a Trauma Center. Engine 10 handled the Landing Zone for MSP Trooper 4 at the scene. The trapped driver was extricated within 15 minutes of arrival and turned over to EMS. All patients were evaluated and transported and the scene was turned over to St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office. Command was terminated and the units returned to quarters at 1530 hours.

Fire Chief 1 (Bell) was transported to the hospital with minor injuries for evaluation. We wish him a speedy recovery and ask if anyone from Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department is in need of anything, please let us know.
