Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department News Articles http://www.hvfd7.com/apps/public/rss News articles published on hvfd7.com using RSS 2.0 Mon, 06 Feb 2012 21:48:27 GMT Rescue Squad Runs Extrication in Mechanicsville http://www.hvfd7.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=762 At 1749 Station 2, Rescue Squad 7, EMS Station 29, EMS Station 79 and the Medic Unit were dispatched to the area of New Market Turner Rd and Three Notch Rd for a Motor Vehicle Accident reported people trapped. Rescue Squad 7 and Chief 7B made the response at dispatch with 6 Volunteers. Rescue Squad 2 was first to arrive confirming a single vehicle into a tree with heavy entrapment. Chief 22B arrived next and established the Command. Rescue Squad 7 and Chief 7B arrived 2 minutes later and positioned the Rescue Squad for extrication. Chief 7B was assigned the "Rescue Group Supervisor" with both Squads and Engine 23. The crews found 2 subjects in the vehicle with the driver trapped and passenger pinned in the vehicle. Crews worked to free the trapped driver who was a priority 1 and had him extracted within 5 minutes. That patient was turned over to EMS as a Priority 1 Category A Trauma. Once the driver was removed the crews worked to gain access to the passenger. After evaluating the patient he was pronounced deceased on the scene. Rescue Squad 7 remained on the scene for a short time before picking up and returning to service. Rescue Squad 7 cleared the scene and returned to quarters at 1854 hours. The units from Station 2 remained on the scene assisting the Police until 2147 hours before returning to quarters. The driver of the vehicle was transported by MSP Trooper 7 to PG Trauma Center. In 1995 Jenks served as President of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Association and in 2001 became the President of the Maryland State Firemen's Association. He was also a Past President of the 3rd & 6th District Volunteer Rescue Squad. After dispatch Units from Hollywood responded with 10 personnel. Squad 7 arrived in the area attempting to locate and found the subject was actually in the Patuxent River just off of Broomes Island. Chief 7B arrived and established the Hollywood Shores command. Engine 72 arrived and staged at Meadow Road and Jones Wharf Road. Boat 83 launched from Calvert county and Raft 1 launched from Hollywood shores. Raft 83 Staged at the launch site. Shortly after launching Raft 1 had a visual on the subject and made contact. Raft 1 advised command that the subject was okay. The subject went out in a canoe to retrieve a second canoe that had been pushed farther out in the river by waves and couldn't get back to shore. Boat 83 arrived and towed the canoes back along with the subject. The subject was checked out by EMS and signed a refusal. Command was terminated and units returned to service at 1721 hours. Engine 74 and Truck 7 made the response shortly after dispatch with 8 volunteers. Engine 10 and Truck 1 were first to arrive with a 2 story Restaurant and nothing showing from Side A. Engine 74 arrived next, picking up Engine 10's line and establishing the Command with Engine 10's Officer as the Interior Supervisor. Truck 7 arrived and took position on the B/C corner of the structure and threw ground ladders to side C. The crews found smoke in the building and found the source to be a smoldering fire in the attic area caused by an electrical short. Crews extinguished the same and returned to service a short time later. At 1519 hours Station 1, Station 7, Station 9, Station 6, Water Supply 5, EMS Station 19 and 79 were dispatched to 42465 St Johns Rd for the House Fire. Engine 74, Truck 7, Rescue Squad 7 and Chief 7A responded on the call with 14 volunteers. Engine 74 and Truck 7 arrived on the scene finding a 1 story single family with nothing showing from side A with Chief 7A establishing the Command. The crew advanced a handline to the structure were they found a fire out on the porch that had extended to the siding. Crews checked for any further extension to the structure and found none. The assignment was scaled back holding Engine Companies 7 & 1 and Truck 7. Crews remained on the scene and assisted the Fire Marshal before returning to quarters. Captain 7A was assigned extrication. Crews stabilized the vehicle and extricated the occupant by removing the passenger side front door and rear door along with the B post. Engine 72 and Engine 74 responded with 8 volunteers as the 5th due Engine and 3rd due Tanker. Units from Solomons arrived on the scene finding a 1 story single family with fire showing through out the structure and requested the second alarm to be filled out. At that time Station 3, Station 1 and Truck 7 were alerted to assist on the House Fire. Truck 7 made the response with an additional 5 volunteers. Engine 72 arrived on the scene, picking up Prince Frederick Engine 21's Line and assuming the 4th due responsibilities as the RIT. Engine 74 arrived right behind the Engine and the crew went to work assisting with extinguishment and opening up. The crew of Engine 72 was re-assigned to assist with opening up the structure. The units from the second alarm arrived on the scene and created a man power pull on side A of the structure. Once the fire was deemed under control, Command held the first alarm units from Solomons, St. Leonard, Prince Frederick, and Hollywood to perform overhaul. Engine 73 quickly responded and found a vehicle to the rear of a commercial building fully involved. Truck Company 7 and Engine 74 had just cleared another call in the same area just minutes away and responded as well. Engine 73's crew ran a 200 ft attack line and extinguished the fire. Due to the vehicle being stolen and the vehicle fire possibly being arson Engine 73 remained on the scene until 0035 hrs to assist the fire marshal. Rescue Squad 7 and Chief 7B responded shortly after dispatch with 7 volunteers. Engine 92 was first to arrive finding a 2 vehicle head-on collision with people trapped in both vehicles. Rescue Squad 7 arrived shortly after and the crew went to work stabilizing vehicles and preparing for the extrication. Rescue Squad 3 was added to the call by Engine 92 due to several people being trapped. The crews from Rescue Squad 7 and Rescue Squad 3 extricated both patients within 20 minutes of their arrival. One patient was transported by Trooper 7 to Baltimore Shock Trauma and two others were transported by ground to St. Mary's Hospital. Prior to units arriving Communications upgraded the call to possibly one person trapped bring Rescue Squad 3 and the Medic Unit. Rescue Squad 7 responded with 7 volunteers shortly after dispatch. Engine 91 was first to arrive finding a 2 vehicle head on collision and confirming 1 patient trapped and not breathing. Rescue Squad 7 arrived and the crew went to work extricating the trapped occupant of the vehicle. The patient was extricated within 6 minutes of the arrival of Rescue Squad 7 and turned over to EMS Staff. Ambulance 387 transported 1 adult patient trauma code to St. Mary's and Ambulance 798 transported a second patient priority 2 to St. Mary's Hospital. After the dispatch Chief 7A, Engine 73, Truck 7, and Engine 74 responded with 18 volunteers. Chief 7A and Engine 73 arrived simultaneously to find a house boat on fire with no extension to the pier. Engine 73 dropped the 4-inch at Placid Harbor Way and Clarke's Landing Road and quickly pulled a 200 ft cross lay along with a 100 ft rack and had the fire under control with-in minutes of deploying the line. Engine 93 and Engine 74 arrived and supplied Engine 73. Truck 7 found another access way to the marina and positioned. Solomon's Boat 3 arrived and finished soaking the boat down. Hazmat 181 and 183 was called due to spilled fuel in the water. 1 male subject was burned and transported to SMH priority 3. Units returned to quarters at 2216 hrs. Engine 73 responded shortly after dispatch with 4 volunteers on the run. Units from Company 1 arrived on the scene confirming a fuel truck overturned and leaking with 1 person trapped. Rescue Squad 7 was added to the call as the second rescue and responded with an additional 4 volunteers. Engine 73 arrived shortly after units from Company 1 and assisted with extrication and assisting the HazMat Teams with the removal of the fuel. The patient was transported by Trooper 7 to the Trauma Center as a Priority 2 patient. Engine 73 remained on the scene for several hours before returning to quarters at 1328 hours. The Open House started at 11am and lasted until 3pm. Members of the community were treated with several demonstrations and different fire prevention activities. We had fire prevention crafts for the kids, free raffles for kid's bikes and fire extinguishers, extrication demo, snacks for the kinds including a Birthday cake for Sparky's 60th Birthday. Also on hand was Ridge VFD with their Smoke House Trailer used to show children how to exit homes and check doors for heat. Maryland State Police, St Mary's Sheriff Office, and Maryland Natural Resources Police also had stands to talk about bike safety, child safety seats, and boater's safety. Melvin Tennyson there explaining the differences between fire extinguishers and their proper use. Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad was giving tours of the Ambulance and talk about pills that could be mistaken for candy. Engine 74 and Truck 7 responded shortly after dispatch with 10 volunteers on the call. Chief 2 was first to arrive finding fire showing from a large Barn. Engine 23 was next to arrive, dropping a supply line while the crew went to work with 2 hand lines. Engine 74 arrived on the scene picking up Engine 23's line and supplying them. The crew from Engine 74 made their way to the scene to assist with the fire suppression. Truck 7 arrived a short time later and assisted with lighting and overhaul. Command held the units from Station 2 and 7 and returned the rest of the assignment. The crews worked on the scene for several hours before returning to service. The units from Hollywood returned to quarters at 0036 hours.
